Kick-Ass 2 Trailer Analysis!

15/03/2013 20:08

Hello all! I am going to be making a trailer analysis for the film Kick-Ass 2. Firstly I will say that Kick-Ass 2 is directed by Jeff Wadlow. The main cast involve: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Jim Carrey, Donald Faison and many more. It is released in the UK on the 19th July 2013.

If you have not seen the trailer in question, view it here:

This is a Red-Band trailer, however there is also a Green-Band trailer that is exactly the same, minus the swearing.

Let us begin.

As soon as the trailer starts it shows the logo to Universal Studios, which is fairly explanatory. The music then begins once we have seen the logo. This then shows a scene where the main female character, Mindy, opens the door, and on the walls are rows of weapons, and in the centre her costume. This would suggest that this is wear she keeps her superhero life, away from the rest of society. The next scene is her and the main male character, Dave, standing face to face to each other. Mindy then says "Are you ready to go again?", suggesting that they have been training for a while, training over and over again. Dave says "What do you want me to do?" possibly suggesting that the training changes everytime they do it. Mindy says "Hit me." which would take us back a bit, surprise us. Dave says "You're a 15 year old girl" which shows the gap between the first and second film, about 3 years as she was 12 in the first film. Mindy then hits him and Dave says "What the hell?", possibly another surprise, Mindy has never done that, or he's wondering what he has done to deserve this. She then says "Act like a bitch, get slapped like a bitch" insulting him as a person but also suggesting that Dave is like her bitch, doing what she says, except for hitting her. There is then a short fight scene, Dave throwing a couple of punches at Mindy, which she dodges. Mindy then retaliates, Dave being completely unable to dodge it, however managing to dodge one punch. Mindy then kicks him in the stomach, which lifts him off his feet and retreats to the floor moaning. At this moment the music stops. Dave is clutching his stomach on the floor and Mindy says "Oh take off your tampon Dave" insulting him further and refering back to the bitch thing.

After that brief opening, we see the city, with a sunset on the horizon. There is also a woman speaking, which the next scene reveals is a human news reporter, talking about the real life superheroes, which means that they are very well known now and have been going for some time now. The trailer shows scenes of Dave, now in his costume as Kick-Ass, walking the streets, high fiving people, and acknowledging the public. This shows he is quite popular as lots of people know him, possibly through the news or he has saved some of them. It then shows Mindy looking at the camera, which then spins all the way around back to Mindy, who is now wearing her costume as Hit-Girl. This suggests that she is imagining that she is Hit-Girl, going through life in school. The scene is then shows as Hit-Girl fighting some thugs in an alley, fighting with some ferocity. Kick-Ass then hits two people in the stomachs with his batons. Hit-Girl then throws off a cover revealing a motorbike. while Dave is making a commentary. It then shows Hit-Girl putting on the helmet and riding the motorbike. The next scene shows Mindy throwing a knife onto a board, training constantly as mentioned by Dave. A superhero then reveals himself from a van with his dog, while Dave is mentioning that there are more and more superheroes every night. The new superhero then greets Kick-Ass, with the rest of the heroes in the background. The new superhero then views the surrounding base, with his arms outstretched. This may suggest that he feels he belongs there. After this it reveals his name as Colonel Stars and Stripes. The next scene shows the Colonel taking his hood down, with the other superheroes behind him. The camera then zooms out through a door viewing hole and a doorbell rings. A guy then comes out, which the Colonel then punched him in the face and then hits him with his bat. This shows that Colonel Stars and Stripes is used to this sort of violence. Kick-Ass seemed quite shocked at this, suggesting that he wouldn't be like that. The Colonel then says "Try and have fun", meaning have fun saving the neighbour hood. The scene then changes to a previous scene of Hit-Girl fighting the people in the alley and punching his balls, approving the previous statement. It then changes back to the Colonel saying "Otherwise, whats the point?" meaning try to have fun, instead of it being too serious.

The next scene shows the superheroes walking, with the Colonel as the leader. A commentary from the villain, Chris, in the background says "A world full of superheroes. Wait till they get a load of me!" While he is saying this we see his house, a white mansion with big gates. We also see Chris saying this at the end, suggesting that he thinks that he could defeat the superheroes. The next scene shows a website, presumably a news site, showing Kick-Ass' and Hit-Girl's picture with the headline of "Superhero team cleans up the street" suggesting that they habe now become a sensation, helping to protect the public from violence and crime. The next scene has Chris saying "I'm going to make Kick-Ass pay for what he did to my dad" with the scene after that revealing what happened to his dad, which was actually in the previous film. We then see two guns in a case with the villain saying "Hence I will be known as ... The MotherFucker!", showing him in his new costume, which is made out of leather, and a more updated costume, and slightly more menacing than his last one. The MF is then shooting his guns in what appears to be a corner shop, showing his terror of being a villain in the neighbourhood. The scene then changes to a small group of people walking into this room, as it lights up, presumably the supervillains evil lair. The voiceover is then MF saying "I'm building an evil army", meaning he is going to match Kick-Ass' army and defeat them. It then reverts back to the shop shooting scene. The next scene is a police car blowing up with a woman wearing a red tank top with white hair, presumably the MF protector. Kick-Ass and another superhero, who is his friend, is then sitting in a cafe, with Kick-Ass saying "Who is this guy", revealing an enigma for Kick-Ass to solve. The scene after this shows some men wearing gas masks, standing by an open coffin. The men are also firing weapons, which are revealed to be grenade launchers. Dave and his friend are then walking down a corridor in the school, with his friend saying "He's the worlds first real supervillain" refering to the MF. The scene reverts to the graveyard scene, with Mindy being blown back from the blast of the grenade from the men shooting. It then reverts back to the scene with Dave and his friend walking down the corridor, with Dave saying "What an asshole!".

The scene then changes dramatically, with lots of police cars, with their lights flashing. A voiceover, presumably a cop, says this in the background of all the drama happening: "We're putting an end to this costumed freaks! If they're wearing a mask, they're getting detained." While the voiceover is happening, we see a superhero getting arrested, and Kick-Ass walking down a street, with Hit-Girl with a helmet on turning around dramatically, then riding her motorbike quite fast and dramatically, with Kick-Ass then running down an alley. This scene is quite dramatic, full of action, reflecting what the film would be like. After this the dramatic music stops and it shows a scene with a man talking to Dave through bars, presumably in prison. The man says "Promise that you will never dress up in that outfit again", this man is presumably his dad, warning Dave to never be Kick-Ass again.

The next scene is Hit-Girl standing on a roof, with a city in the background at sunset. When the camera zooms in we see that Hit-Girl's face is bloodied up a bit. She then says "Kick-Ass isn't a costume, it's who you really are." The camera then goes to Kick-Ass with his mask in his hands. His face is also a bit bloodied, possibly through training or fighting real people. A title then comes up saying "THIS SUMMER" stating when it will be released. The scene after this shows Big Daddy's costume, in a glass case. Mindy then says "My dad made me promise that I'd never stop defending this city" The scene after this shows some doors opening with shadows on the floor, presumably the heroes or maybe the villains. The scene after is MF turning around, looking dramatic. After this, there is a scene in the villains hideout, where all the villains turn and part, revealing Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl standing there. Kick-Ass in the voiceover says "We got into this rave". The next camera reveals all the villains in a big group, with possibly two important characters at the back. Nearer the front are also the superheroes, that suggests this is some sort of standoff. The next camera action shows Kick-Ass and MF standing face to face, like a standoff. Kick-Ass' friend says "The anticipation is killing me" to the person next to him. Kick-Ass then pulls his batons out, but then punches towards the camera instead, presumably at MF. The next quick scene shows a car exploding, then Hit-Girl swinging her stick from the first film. After this it shows the Colonel, picking up a bottle, then throwing it up and hitting it against someones head with his bat. After this shows a quick scene of someone dancing, presumably from the school. This could be a major character. After this shows Hit-Girl stabbing a villain in the head, Black Death. The next scene shows Kick-Ass and MF fighting on a roof, proving that his training was worthwhile. Next shows Hit-Girl fighting someone, then the next scene with her as Mindy in school, wearing some sort of dress and handbag, trying to fit in. The next scene has Kick-Ass jumping from a platform, pulling his batons out, dramatically. Hit-Girl then jumps over someone while holding their head. The Colonel then hit a table with people playing poker around it, sending the chips flying. Following this, there is a scene, showing a white van driving down a freeway. It is then revealed that Dave is in the back with some guy about to kill him with a knife. The next camera shot shows Mindy on the roof with a gun saying "Game on, cocksuckers" reloads the gun and starts shooting down. The next shot has the people in the van trying to shoot Mindy on the roof. One guy gets kicked in the face by Mindy, which causes him to fly backwards into the car windscreen behind the van. Mindy then turns around where there is a guy in the front of the van with a gun. Mindy holds onto the gun, jumps like a cartwheel and hits him in the face. This could show what her father taught her and her training also. The credits then come up with who is in the film. The last scene shows the Colonel and Kick-Ass interrrogating a Chinese guy. The Chinese guy says "Who are you" and the Colonel says "We're the good guys". The Chinese man then responds saying, "You're the dead guys". The Colonel calls his dog, which then bits the Chinese mans balls. The Colonel then just starts laughing and says "Yeah, there's a dog on your balls". The final credits then come up saying "Kick-Ass 2 Coming Soon". Putting the credits at the end would want you to watch the entire trailer to see what the film is called.

I hope you enjoy this trailer analysis. I will make a review when the film comes out.
